Cornelius O'Brien Tower

Cornelius O'Brien built a well house in the 1830s and floored and walled it with Moher flagstones. He is buried in the O'Brien vault, above and behind the well. The O'Brien Monument is a tall column near Brigid's Well and is dedicated to Comelius O'Brien, the improving landlord much maligned in the areas folklore. It was built in October of 1853. The Relievers Well was built by Cornelius O'Brien as a source of water for a family known as the Relievers because they provided relief work for starving people during the Great Hunger.
